Vintage 9 / 2024

This System-Exa was built in 1954/55, so it's pretty much as old as I am :-) It comes from the VEB Rheinmetall office machine factory in Sömmerda / Thuringia and was a licensed product of the Exa from the Ihagee company in Dresden. More than 15000 cameras were produced, the exact number is questionable. It was never exported. It is a 35 mm camera with a finder hood, but there was also a prism viewfinder. Normally, it is held at about chest height. The lens is interchangeable, this one is the famous and popular “eagle eye” Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 50mm / 2.8. My copy is in very good condition and works fine, I also have a matching leather case. Although the Exa is robust and durable in principle, I don't use this camera as a precaution because the System-Exa is quite sensitive and I don't want to damage it.
