East Yorkshire 776 - YX59 FHC

It's time for a themed introspective.

Last week, up and out at Hornsea with nothing much to do, I decided I would tick one thing off the bucket list and head on down to the old Hornsea EYMS depot to catch a bus. Closed in May 2018 just before the take-over by the Go-Ahead Group, with drivers and buses repatriated off to Bridlington or Withernsea depots, Hornsea bus depot now sits derelict, the booking office boarded over and the tarmac becoming more overgrown, likely awaiting its inevitable repurposing or demolition. My bets are on the latter.

What's interesting to note is that the old drill holes from the metal BET-era 'East Yorkshire Motor Services Ltd.' sign that was removed upon takeover by the National Bus Company are still very much visible by the modern-ish signage. What's also interesting is that like at Pocklington, Hornsea is still in full-time use as a bus stop, here acting as the main terminus for anything Hornsea-bound. But for how long, I wonder? Here, it is very quiet. Stand by the grassy knoll between the entrance and exit, you can even hear the crickets chirping away.

In front of a building that surely is not long for this world, East Yorkshire's 776, a 2009 Volvo B9TL Wright Gemini 2, is seen casting a lonely figure as it passes through the closed Hornsea depot complex as it heads out on a 129 to Withernsea.
