Tashkent è stata la prima città dell'Asia Centrale ad avere una metropolitana. La costruzione della metropolitana di Tashkent ebbe inizio nel 1973 e la prima linea venne aperta nel 1977.
I principali artisti e architetti uzbeki parteciparono alla sua progettazione e le stazioni rappresentano ciascuna un'opera d'arte. Ogni stazione è unica ed è dedicata a un tema particolare.

L'idea alla base della costruzione di stazioni della metropolitana ai tempi dell'URSS era che dovessero rappresentare dei “palazzi per il popolo” e per questo motivo i materiali usati erano intenzionalmente preziosi. La metropolitana di Tashkent ha quattro linee e un totale di 43 stazioni.

Tashkent was the first city in Central Asia to have a metro. The construction of the Tashkent Metro began in 1973 and the first line opened in 1977.
Leading Uzbek artists and architects participated in its design and each station is a work of art. Each station is unique and dedicated to a particular theme.
The station “Kosmonavtlar” (Astronauts) is decorated with ceramic discs with cosmonauts.
The idea behind the construction of metro stations in the USSR was that they should be “palaces for the people” and for this reason the materials used were intentionally precious. The Tashkent Metro has four lines and a total of 43 stations.
