Crystal Mill - Colorado
The Crystal Mill was built in 1893 to harness the power of the water from the Crystal River. The water turbine inside the mill drove an air compressor to power machinery and tools for nearby silver mines. The mill fell into disuse in 1917 and has been left as is ever since. Getting here wasn’t easy. After the 4 hour drive we reached a track only accessible by some 4x4s which we needed to hike. The hike was over 2 hours but well worth the trip. With the Apsen trees being in their peak fall yellows and oranges, it was the perfect time to visit this old piece of Colorado history.
