Oil?! - Who needs it?
In spite of what the dreamers and schemers in Washington may think - we still need oil and gas in this country. President Obama waves his hand dismissively as he proclaims that America doesn't want those "dirty jobs" - that Americans want the "Jobs of the Future" - like this is some kind of ride at Disneyworld..
Who doesn't want the "Jobs of the Future"? But we're living in the here and now, Mr. President - I need a job NOW! And America needs oil and gas NOW! Planning for the future is great - and I think we should put money into research for whatever energy source the future may hold - but not at the expense of hard-working, tax-paying Americans. I'm afraid his "Vision of the Future" is clouding his ability to see what's going on around me and you TODAY!
I used to work at a manufacturing plant that made oil rigs exactly like this one - from the ground up. But it's gone now. All that heavy machinery and all the knowledge and self-reliance that came from the ability to take raw steel, and shape it into heavy equipment like this rig - all that is gone. More than likely, this rig was manufactured in Mexico or China - where they took all that machinery and expertise, and shook their heads at our willingness to give it up.
So, don't try that Jedi mind-trick on me, Mr. President. Wave your hand in someone else's face. Until you have a viable alternative - don't punish us all for trying to make a living. Or - show some commitment, and use an electric helicopter - or ride a bike to Martha's Vineyard for vacation.
