Inktober 18 The Paddlers
Poem by Tom Lee
He doesn’t like the water
That’s what he said to me
When each day I go swimming
(I really love the sea)
“What if I fall over?
I might slip up and drown”
He won’t even venture near
He’s worried, with a frown
“It’s really rather lovely
You can swim and float you see”
That’s what I keep telling him,
He’s not believing me
“Let me make a promise,
Let’s walk across the sand
I’ll keep very close to you
Make sure you hold my hand”
At last I have persuaded him
Decided to skedaddle
He’s only rolled his trousers up
He’s going to have a paddle
He’s decided that he likes it
Knows that it’s not a whim
Now all I have to do next time
Is encourage him to swim!
