Aloof Oriental Honey Buzzard (Pernis ptilorhynchus), Aqaba Bird Observatory, Aqaba, Jordan

The Aqaba Bird Observatory ponds are also lined by many large trees as well as scrub acacia areas... this place is special, right in the middle of a major migratory flyway...

And to prove the point, after moving on from the Cormorants, we encountered four Oriental Honey Buzzards or Crested Honey Buzzards... these large raptors were hidden in some dense branches and leaves, so we kept moving until one flew out and perched on another tree perhaps 50 Meters (say 165 Ft) further on... no luck grabbing focus on a BIF shot, but I did get this over the shoulder pose of a very interesting subject! Not great but not bad...

The northern migration from Africa will begin in just a month, so I need to get myself down there for a couple of days after the Ides of March... that's the plan... a tip of the hat also to Feras the excellent manager at the ABO, and the Jordan Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature...
