Identity: Seattle
I am unable to show any evidence of the development phase to you since my iPad has been taken back, but I can describe to you my process. I first started browsing Pinterest for ideas on what to do for my identity collage. After finding a picture that inspired me, I tried to emulate it according to my own artistic preferences. I struggled a lot with photoshop process. One of my photos wouldn’t cooperate with the photoshop layers, so I had to start over once.
I chose to communicate the idea of “identity” by taking my identity into my own hands - literally. There is a common notion that the environment in which you are raised heavily influences who you will be as you grow up. For this project, I have taken the environment that I will be living in for the next chapter of my life - Seattle, Washington - and I put it in into the palm of my hand. By doing so, I am saying that I will be not only molding my identity to the Seattle lifestyle, but my identity will be changed from what I once held in my hand before.
I do not think that someone looking at my photo would instantly know it’s about identity. There needs to be many inferences made for someone to know what it is truly about. I think if the person looking at the photo knew me personally, they could get the meaning of the photo with a little help.
