The story goes that Arcadius hid away in the countryside to avoid being forced to worship the Roman gods. He was caught and dismembered, some time around the year 302 AD, proclaiming that with his execution, all who looked on were being sacrificed to God.
He was formerly a prominent citizen of Caesarea, a Mediterranean coastal town which is now known as Cherchell, Algeria.
The sculpture is by Angelo Sartori, and it's located within the Dionisi Chapel, one of the chapels that lines the nave of the cathedral.
Inside the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Matricolare, in Verona, Italy.
