Crewe - DRS Class 57 (57307)
DRS Class 57 (57307), is seen here stabled at Crewe Railway Station, in case of / waiting for ‘Thunderbird’ duties.
This locomotive is named ‘Lady Penelope’ from the TV show ‘Thunderbirds’.
These locomotives were originally Class 47s, but in the mid-2000s, a number of Class 47s were upgraded and converted to Class 57s for Thunderbird duties to help rescue any Class 390 Pendolino that were broken down and / or stranded on the railway.
They were also used to drag these trains through unnelectrified lines. Since then however, the Manchester - Liverpool and Manchester - Wigan (via Eccles) and Manchester - Preston lines (via Bolton) have been electrified, resulting in less work for them to do nowadays.
