Reading ability waves
My image shows the relationship between readability levels. Teachers must assess their students to find their levels and provide appropriate materials to meet the child's individual reading goals. The waves represent the materials. Riding a wave that is smaller may be easier for the student to surf through, but learning will occur in the larger waves. The instructional level waves might make a student a little unbalanced, but they will be able to learn, power through and keep riding while retaining comprehension. At a frustration level, the wave is too big and the student will fall off, unable to benefit from the challenge of this level.
