For Linux, an application to improve performance in games

Feral Interactive has released GameMode, an application with source code that will allow gamers on Linux to achieve better gaming performance. As stated in the press release, GameMode indicates the CPU, so that it automatically switches to the maximum performance mode during the start of games.
