Home Rails
Amtrak train #244 traverses down the Hudson River seen at Dobbs Ferry, NY. The two private cars on the rear of the train are on home rails as the New York Central railroad is the predecessor of the current day Hudson Line. This location on the line provides one access to a scene that incorporates both the Hudson River and famous aspects of New York City in the background. Two notable features of the city include the Empire State Building and the George Washington Bridge!
The first car apart from the Amtrak train is New York Central Tavern Lounge car #43. Built by the BUDD company in 1947 for use on multiple trains across the New York Central system.
The last car on the train is the New York Central 20th Century Limited Observation car "Hickory Creek." This car is from the tail end of the 1948 20th Century Limited and carried famous passengers such as Walt Disney, Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe.
Today, both of these cars are in the hands of the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey and run under the section called "Hudson River Rail Excursions." The two cars can be seen on Amtrak trains 233 and 244 every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the month of June 2022!
