Bluebell, " Scilla nan-scripta " ( Liliaceae ),

It hes a markedly Atlantic distribution in Europe, and bluebell woods are among the most distincly British of all plant communities, They are most characteristic of acid, sandy loams, although they may also be abundant on bouth heavier and calcareous soils, Bluebells flower most freely in light shade and following coppicimg, and in the west are commonly found in hedge banks and in open moorland and heathland, They flower from April to early June and are pollinated by insects.
