tulip
May is tulip month in my garden. On this particular May morning, overnight rain meant that several of the tulip blooms had raindrops hanging from their undersides. The low angled sunlight was creating highlights as it touched each droplet.
The tulip shape is so recognisable, I felt it's entire inclusion was not required. Moving in closer enabled the image to become more intimate. A soft focus on the tulip petals and a narrow depth of field, allowed the raindrop to fall out of focus and for the highlight to be rendered as a white orb suspended beneath the unmistakable tulip form. A low shooting angle meant the more distant blooms could form a soft backdrop, graduating from deep red through to orange.
