Southern Black Widow (Latrodectus mactans)
An unexpected (and not particularly welcome) visitor to the house. We are a spider friendly home and welcome most spiders to keep our plants pest free. I will admit all the fear about this species has been hard to unlearn and while I won't kill them I also don't want them in my home. I caught this male spider in a jar and ended up taking it to the woods to live a happy (and far away from me) life.
