Former Synagogue in Leszno
The synagogue in Leszno is one of largest and best-preserved synagogues in the Greater Poland Voivodeship. It was built in the years 1796–1799 on the site of the old synagogue, and most of the funds for the construction were provided by the Jewish community.
In 1905, the building was rebuilt, giving it a Byzantine-Moorish style. In the interwar period, the Jewish community deteriorated considerably, it could not afford to support a rabbi or a synagogue.
During World War II, the synagogue was turned into a storehouse of various materials. In 1956, the upper part of the tower with the dome was pulled down. At that time, the synagogue's ground floor was used as a municipal bathhouse. Various attempts were made to convert the building into the Municipal Cultural Center.
In 1991, the synagogue was entered in the register of monuments and was taken over by the District Museum in Leszno. In 1993, the renovation of the building began in order to adapt it for museum purposes, spending large sums on the work. In 1999, the renovation was suspended due to the claims of the Jewish Community in Wrocław. Ultimately, the State Treasury paid compensation to the Jewish community, which finally gave up ownership of the building. Currently, it houses the District Museum and the Art Gallery.

Synagoga w Lesznie jest jedną z największych i najlepiej zachowanych synagog w województwie wielkopolskim. Była zbudowana w latach 1796–1799, na miejscu starej synagogi, a większość funduszy na budowę wyłożyła gmina żydowska.
W 1905 roku przebudowano gmach, nadając mu styl bizantyjsko-mauretański. W okresie międzywojennym gmina żydowska bardzo podupadła, nie było jej stać na utrzymywanie rabina ani synagogi.
W okresie II wojny światowej synagoga została przeznaczona na składnicę różnych materiałów. W 1956 roku rozebrano górną partię wieży wraz z kopułą. W tym czasie parter synagogi pełnił funkcję miejskiej łaźni. Podejmowano różne próby zaadaptowania budynku na Miejski Dom Kultury.
W 1991 roku synagoga została wpisana do rejestru zabytków i została przejęta przez Muzeum Okręgowe w Lesznie. W 1993 roku rozpoczęto remont obiektu, chcąc przystosować go na cele muzealne, wydając duże kwoty na wykonanie prac. W 1999 roku remont został wstrzymany w związku z roszczeniami Gminy Wyznaniowej Żydowskiej we Wrocławiu. Ostatecznie Skarb Państwa wypłacił odszkodowanie gminie żydowskiej, która ostatecznie zrzekła się prawa własności do obiektu. Obecnie znajduje się tutaj Muzeum Okręgowe i Galeria Sztuki.
