Panting she releases the knife from her clenched fist. Like a broken mask, the smile slowly fades from his face. His gaze wanders from her teary eyes to the knife between his ribs.
"It.. hurts.", he whispers in disbelief.
"It's supposed to hurt.", she answers. "Don't worry, it won't hurt long." His eyes searching for hers in vain. Slowly she steps back, disappearing in the darkness. The insight wipes his face clean from the grief and makes place for acceptance.
"You're wrong.", he replies with a heavy sigh, forcing himself to breath calmly. "If you think it won't hurt long." Gently he pulls the dagger out of his body. Dark blood drips from the shimmering knife and drenches the floor. The wound, however, slowly starts to close.
"Do you know the difference between us?", he asks as her eyes widen in horror. "I will come back stronger. How about you?" He twists the dagger in his hands. She stumbles backwards, a silent scream on her face.
"Didn't think so.", he continues quietly while she seems to be frozen in place. "You don't need to fear harm from me. Didn't you want to leave? Go ahead but there's one last thing: Don't you ever dare change your mind or I might change mine too." He tosses the dagger in front of her feet. His eyes turn cold as he watches her grab the dagger and disappear in the darkness.
"Farewell.", he whispers and places his hand over the wound.
