Iglesias (CI) 13/01/2017: Chiesa del Buoncammino
The cult of the Blessed Virgin of the Good Way is lost in the night of the times, for precision in the Middle Ages, when the lands and pastures of the territory of Iglesias (southwestern Sardinia, Iglesiente) were infested with locusts. The people, to remedy, appealed to the faith and invoked the Blessed Virgin of the Good Way, as has happened in the past for other epidemics. A procession of the faithful reached the Good Way by carrying the Madonna's simulacrum. At the summit, they invoked the blessing of God and demanded that they be emptied of that disaster. According to tradition, insects abandoned the land for the joy of the population.
The Blessed Virgin of the Good Way was again implored by a man who, having received grace, went to the mountain every week to light a candle. Because of the strong wind, one day the flame triggered a fire and the chapel was destroyed by fire. And so in 1777, Maria Antioca Pisano and her husband, Antioco Bernardini, the latter responsible for the disaster, built a small church, the church of the Good Way. In 1803 the church was joined by another building, a haven for pilgrims during the feast. The worship building was thus melted into a single two-timp façade. In 1817, it was further expanded.
However, in the early twentieth century the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the Good Way of Iglesias deteriorated very seriously, and the descendants of the Pisan and Bernardini, unable to bear the necessary expenses, gave it free of charge in 1957 to the Curia. Returning to the faithful the renewed church in 1974.
It is still a place of worship frequented by pilgrims and tourists, surrounded by greenery and surrounded by its mystical charm. The shrine can be visited every day of the year thanks to the stable presence of the poor sisters of Santa Chiara.

Il culto della Beata Vergine del Buon Cammino si perde nella notte dei tempi, per la precisione nel Medioevo, quando le terre e i pascoli del territorio di Iglesias (Sardegna Sud-Ovest, Iglesiente) furono infestati da locuste. La popolazione, per porre rimedio, si appellò alla fede e invocò la Beata Vergine del Buon Cammino, come già successo in passato per altre epidemie. Una processione di fedeli raggiunse il Buon Cammino trasportando con se il simulacro della Madonna. Giunti alla vetta, invocarono la benedizione di Dio e chiesero di essere affrancati da quella sciagura. Secondo la tradizione gli insetti abbandonarono i terreni per la gioia della popolazione.
La Beata Vergine del Buon Cammino fu nuovamente implorata da un uomo, che, ottenuta la grazia, si recava sul monte ogni settimana ad accendere un cero. A causa del forte vento, un giorno la fiamma scatenò un incendio e la cappella fu distrutta dal fuoco. E così nel 1777, Maria Antioca Pisano e suo marito Antioco Bernardini, quest'ultimo responsabile del disastro, fecero costruire una piccola chiesa, la chiesa del Buon Cammino. Nel 1803 alla chiesa venne affiancata un'altra costruzione, un rifugio per i pellegrini durante la festa. L'edificio di culto veniva così fusa in una unica facciata a due timpani. Nel 1817, venne ulteriormente ampliata.
Tuttavia, nei primi anni del Novecento il Santuario della Beata Vergine del Buon Cammino di Iglesias si deteriorò in maniera molto grave e i discendenti dei Pisano e dei Bernardini, impossibilitati a sostenere le spese necessarie, lo cedettero a titolo gratuito nel 1957 alla Curia. Che restituì ai fedeli la rinnovata chiesa nel 1974.
È tuttora luogo di culto frequentato da pellegrini e turisti, immerso nel verde e avvolto dal suo fascino mistico. Il santuario è visitabile tutti i giorni dell'anno grazie alla stabile presenza delle sorelle povere di Santa Chiara.
