September poppy
This poppy is huge. I had taken a few roots of this poppy from my mother's garden, which was my grandmother's place when she was alive. My mamgu (grandmother) loved these poppies, maybe because of their bright vibrant red colour but also because with failing sight she could still see the big dollops of colour.
They were taking too much of the garden over, so earlier this year when we went to help turn the garden in preparation for her summer vegetables I took some roots home with me. I've tried previously to take some roots and failed as they tend to sulk and die.
This year that though despite having toiled all day in one garden we came how and out I went straight to plant the poppies. Gallons of water were used over the next few weeks to try to encourage these dear poppies to survive. 3 if not four of the roots did eventually curl up and die, but this one plant did. It has sulked all summer looking as if it will not make it, but the other day I noticed this! Happy days.
I mentioned earlier that they were bright red in colour, this however at time of taking the photo appears to me to have a salmon pink appearance, will have to wait and see what colour it finally turns out to be.
