Rusty Red

A bright red maple leaf rests atop a rusty and mothballed railroad rail. This trackage is part of a line that was laid out in 1859 as part of the Chicago, Detroit and Canada Grand Trunk Junction Railroad, the American extension of the Grand Trunk Railway. Once upon a time this line would've hosted both passenger and freight trains and several industries would set up shop along the ROW. Overtime those customers faded away (notably Domtar Paper and Dunn Paper) or stopped using the railroad. In 2018, Lake State Railway began leasing the line from CN. CDW Consulting is the only customer that remains, a transloading operation that sees tank cars, boxcars, and centerbeams. Further up the line is a red sign denoting the end of track, and a piece of rail is cut out to prevent runaway cars from straying onto the railroad crossings.
