S7667 - Barf Hill

HISTORY
Pillar completed 5th March 1954 costing £15.17s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SE38/T2 within the Harrogate secondary block in 1955. Flush bracket S7667 was levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in 1971. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in May 1975.
SITE VISIT
Parked to the south side of the unclassified road at far west end of the large farmyard at SE439749. Overall approach from the southeast. Followed the mapped RoW north c300m then west along the field boundary hedge to the trig point. The column is located on the south side of the of boundary line. Foliage warfare again! The pillar trunk is damaged possibly by farm machinery or hedge cutting gear. The spider retains its original OS centre cap with deep indented letters. The flush bracket faces south, compass measurement 175°. Vented through the back (north) facing sight hole. The open outlook spans 90° from east to south, the remainder is blocked by the surrounding foliage.
