On November 9, a lunar occultation of Venus was visible across almost all of Europe, creating a magnificent sight.
During the occultation, the waning 15% illuminated Moon appeared to hide Venus only to reappear about an hour later.
Venus had instead overcome the dichotomy and appeared as a 58% illuminated gibbous disk, with a diameter of 20 arc seconds through the telescope eyepiece.
Its brightness was mag. –4.2. With clear skies, Venus was clearly visible with the naked eye and easily visible with binoculars.
Here is the sequence of the phenomenon as observed from Oria, southern Italy.
Sequence with selection of single shots with alignment on the lunar disk.
