Family Tree
If you were to spend enough time railfanning CN's Matteson Subdivision at Griffith, IN, you'd very likely capture at least one of the remaining Illinois Central SD70s still painted in "Deathstar" colors, having been regularly assigned to Chicagoland locals in and out of Kirk Yard in Gary, IN.
What you would most likely not see, however, is one of these SD70s partnered with two other locomotives, each representing another road that was placed under the CN umbrella. And yet, that's exactly what happened on this drizzly November day, as IC 1022, EJE 661 (SD38-2), and GTW 5860 (GP38-2) all team up on the daily L515 local from Kirk to Homewood and back, seen here passing some former EJ&E / Erie Lackawanna equipment on display at a small park in Griffith.
Never know what you'll see nowadays!
