Testing the ice

Late in the fall, in a test trip across the frozen inshore ice, a mother polar bear leads her two near-adult cubs. On the horizon there is still open water with large waves and white caps that, for now, are preventing the seawater from freezing. But soon it will freeze and the bears will head out to hunt for seals. Hudson Bay, MB.
