Catching snowflakes
A polar bear on the shore of Hudson Bay catches a few snowflakes on its black tongue. The tongue and the skin of polar bears is black, which helps them absorb UV light travelling down their translucent hairs. They only appear white because their fur reflects visible light. Of interest, polar bear cubs are born with pink tongues that gradually turn back over a few months.
