Officially known as the Principality of Monaco, Monaco is a sovereign city-state located on the French Riviera. It is bordered on three sides by France and the Mediterranean Sea on the coast. The total area of Monaco is only 2,2 square kilometres making it the second smallest, after the Vatican, and most densely populated country in the world. The most populous quarter of Monaco is Monte Carlo which is also the most well known part of Monaco mainly due to the casino. Monaco is a principality and the head of state is Prince Albert II who is from the Grimaldi family that have ruled Monaco since 1297.
