Overhead Signs

(cont.) ...MDOT has altered the configuration of this interchange, for the major benefit of this one specific off-ramp to boot. There are now three lanes here, and the traffic signal controls two. There's still the one lane that turns left (302 west, to Horn Lake), but there's also a dedicated right-turn lane at the stoplight, which takes you to the northern portion of Southcrest Parkway (leading to the hospital, hence the blue “H” tacked atop the sign here. Personally, I believe the “H” ought to have been made a permanent part of the sign itself, or MDOT could even have had the sign read “Hospital” in addition to the relatively lesser-known “Southcrest Pkwy,” but I digress.). Then, you've also got the existing “country,” non-signalized right-turn lane that has also been allowed to remain intact.

Why the two right-turn lanes? Well, to solve the issue of the drivers sweeping across mulitple lanes of traffic, of course! On Goodman Road itself – which we'll see momentarily – the large center median has been removed, in favor of new, parking-lot-bumper-style barricades. These barricades serve to essentially “trap” drivers in the lanes they are in. That sounds like it's a bad thing, but I promise, it's not! (cont.)

These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)
