I spent the entirety of my adolescence trying to minimize my lips; hide them. I would purposely smile because they looked smaller when I did. My mom would try to comfort my insecurity, reminding me how many people paid for fuller lips. I just didn't want them.
I was fully into my adult life when I realized that they were one of my best, most unique features. I still get self-conscious at times, but have also come to embrace them because they are, in fact, a big part of what makes me me.
