Star Theatres / former Hilton Soldiers' Memorial Hall and Institute, South Australia

Star Theatres consist of twin theatres hosting new and classic plays and concerts, live music.

They operate in the former Baptist Church joined with the former Soldiers’ Memorial Hall and Institute. Together they form the Theatre 62 complex.

The church was opened in 1857 as the Methodist Free Church and became Baptist in 1861.

 

The foundation stone of the hall was laid 8 September 1928 by

O Binder, president of the Hilton Soldiers’ Memorial Committee.

The Hilton Soldiers Memorial Hall and institute was officially opened before a large crowd on Saturday 20 October 1928. The president of the Returned Sailors and Soldiers' Imperial League, W. F.J. McCann, cut the ribbon and declared the hall open.

The building is a spacious and solid one constructed of brick, by Mr E. G. Evans, contractor, and when certain additions outside the contract are made, the total cost will be about £1,200.
