"This 1981 Mazda 323 is a rare survivor, with the vendor informing us that it's completely original (apart from the tyres). It remained with the same family from new until very recently, passing from a father to his son, and has only covered 25,088 miles from new.
"The Mazda was taken off the road until 1990, after which it was stored in a garage and not started in that time. It was lightly recommissioned at the start of this year. The 323 is still in its original state, with the vendor telling us that the only things that have been replaced are the tyres, which have been superseded by new Dunlops as the original SP4s were flat after 30 years if standing.
"The panels display no signs of welding, filler, dents or scratches, although they do have some small patches of surface rust in places. The underbody was Waxoyled from new, and so is still surviving very well. The mileage is recorded at 25,088.
"Inside, the cabin is as original as the exterior; the velour upholstery has no marks, tears or splits anywhere, with the same true of the carpets, door cards and dashboard. The original toolkit is complete and unused and there is a spare set of keys.
"The paperwork folder includes the old style V5, sales brochure, Haynes manual, Mazda 'customer repair manual', owner's manual, price list, and warrant and service booklet (albeit this is only stamped up to the first service). The original sales invoice is present, showing the car a purchase price of July 1981, along with MoT test certificates from 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990. There are a number of miscellaneous bills from 1981 to 1989, together with the most up-to-date invoice - from October 2021 - for four new Dunlop Street Response tyres, costing a total of £300."
Sold for £3564 (including premium). It was offered with no reserve.
