JOSH'S JOURNAL. . "DOES...

JOSH'S JOURNAL.

.

"DOES ANYONE KNOW THIS SONG?".

.

(Reposted in case you missed it).

.

So tell me I'm not alone. :-). Who hasn't had the silly fantasy. Finally getting your chance. Maybe called on stage to save the day.

.

"Billy Joel's not going to be able to finish the set, so we're hoping someone from the audience can come up and sing Piano Man. Does anyone know that song?".

.

Silly of course. But admit it, when it's just you, 5:20pm traffic, and Adel. . . you KNOW you're ready for the spotlight. Maybe it's just me. ;-). I take that back. I've heard Kevin and Emily go to town on some Queen.

.

I say own it. Let your inner rockstar shine. ;-). And check this out. Here's a very cool thought. You may not have rockstar pipes but because of the mobile revolution, the daydream isn't really all that silly. PHOTOGRAPHY is now a live performance. Just like musicians at a concert, our favorite artists are now sharing live and they are enjoying people's response in real time.

.

And here's the most exciting part in my opinion. . . sometimes we ARE invited to play with the band. Everyday, here on Instagram, community leaders are directing a new collaborative piece and asking for our input.

.

Sometimes we're all joining in at once. Singing along with them as one and submitting to a gallery of thousands of images. And some time we get featured. We step up and sing a verse in their "Yellow" song. Or play the solo in their "Portrait" rhapsody. Our chance to shine. . . live and global.

.

We create to connect. I believe the desire to engage with each other is fundamental to art. Engagement is a two way street, so isn't the desire to participate a natural result. We want to know each other. To understand the artist but also to be understood. To be heard.

.

Exciting isn't it? :-). A whole new way of creating. A whole new way to connect.

.

Thanks to @smallmoves for adding this shot to our week's best "Concert" on Sunday. Definately rockstar material Ellie. ;-).

able_ground: Beautiful!

jessicaabt: Strangely enough, Instagram has taught me that, while beautiful in pictures, the world truly isn't just black or white. You can enjoy a moment and its simple beauty in that exact time AND take a picture of it to remember it forever. You can be an athlete that is committed to the art of training and nutrition AND enjoy the seeing the beauty in your teammates and your playing field. You can share your daily thoughts over the internet and find community online without being a lonely narcissist. And most importantly, you can embrace, enjoy, and indulge in art, whether it be photos, captions, or liking others photos, whether you are actually good at it or not. We are made for life, love, community, joy, peace.... And beauty. And beauty is art is photography is Instagram.

joshjohnson: @jessicaabt lovely. :-)

benkatmatt: Love the analogy. So true. And I love that Instagram & specifically this #jj community connects people... We do all want to be understood and hopefully to understand others. It's so awesome that we can do this all & in real time!
