The power of steam: Great Britain XVII tour, approaching Pontsarn Crossing near Cardiff, south Wales

I always look forward to a steam charter heading west along the South Wales Main Line and seeing how many people head out to take photographs or just take in the sight and sound of a steam loco hard at work on the mainline.

Here's my offering from this morning's Pembroke Dock-bound The Great Britain XVII tour, with Black 5 45212 putting down the power as the train approaches Pontsarn Crossing.

In the distance you can see GWR's 1L46 0923 Swansea-London Paddington - for a minute or so, I wondered if I would only get a photo of the IETs - with the charter obscured behind it, but things worked out a bit better in the end!
