THANKS FOR NOTHING, FLICKR!
Yesterday, April 23, 2019, I received a response from "Walter" of the "Flickr Trust and Safety Team" to my renewed complaint regarding the unsolicited foul and abusive language directed at me on one of my photographs (Keystone Conference #2) by some creep named denny dickerson from Columbus, Ohio. I had previously reported this creep to Flickr on April 12, 2019, but I received a response from "Walter" of the "Flickr Trust and Safety Team" that offered suggestions as to how to deal with abusive comments, basically by blocking, but also filing a complaint with Flickr regarding such comments, if I wished. Having reported the creep once already, I certainly wished to file a second report and complaint.
In my second complaint, I largely reiterated the same facts as my initial complaint and argued that mr. dickerson's April 9, 2019 comment, specifically "READY to eat your FUCKING words about Trump, CUNT FACE?" (mr. dickerson's capitalizations.) was clearly violative of Flickr's Code of Conduct, which mandates that all users treat others with respect, and requested that mr. dickerson's Flickr account be removed and that he be banned from Flickr in accordance with Flickr's professed intolerance for abusive activity.
Walter's response was as follows:
"Joni,
We have reviewed your report and taken action in accordance with our guidelines. We do not discuss actions taken on other user's accounts."
I guess that includes when Flickr takes no action because as of this date mr. dickerson still has a Flickr account. So much for respect for others and zero tolerance for abusive activity.
Oddly, at the conclusion of "Walter's" response, Flickr requests feedback as to his response by checking either "Thumbs up" or "Thumbs down" and inviting additional comments. Needless to say, I gave Walter's response a big "Thumbs down" and added the following comment:
"I have been advised that Flickr/Oath has taken action based on my report of foul and abusive language used against me by a complete stranger, but will not disclose or discuss exactly what that action was. I don't know what action was taken, but it is my understanding that the individual in question still has a Flickr account. This is an unacceptable and personally offensive resolution to my complaint. I can only view your action as nothing less than a tacit endorsement of that individual's disgusting and degrading comment. As such, some things are now clear.
1. Flickr does not enforce its rules regarding foul and
abusive language, especially if it is misogynistic and
directed at a member of the transgendered community.
2. Flickr/Oath apparently supports a president who has
famously bragged that he seduces women by "grabbing
them by their pussy".
So there it is, ladies. If you post a photograph that the Flickr police deem to violate their safety levels, you run the risk of being kicked off Flickr, no matter how many other Flickr users may like or enjoy that photo or other photos on your Flickr page based on Views, Comments, and Favorites. However, if you should have the misfortune of being the victim of an unsolicited disgusting and degrading comment on any of your photos by a creepy moron like denny dickerson, (who posts no photos of his own on this photo-sharing media), don't expect Flickr to take any kind of punitive action on your behalf against that misogynist slob. All you can do is block him and hope that he doesn't find your photos on someone else's Flickr page.
Sometimes, if you want something done, you have to do it yourself. Accordingly, I have blocked denny dickerson, which is all I can do to protect myself, but doesn't address or eliminate the basic problem, which is denny dickerson himself and other misogynists like him, who remain free to use verbally abusive and degrading language against other women and members of the transgendered community with relative impunity.
