Huangjinggou

The isolated Weiyuan Coal Railway took coal from the loader at Huangjinggou, through the town, and to a discharge point at Nihe, approx. four miles distant where it was fed by conveyor to a cement factory. Unloading was carried out rapidly whilst the train was moving and the loco immediately ran round and brought the empties back. Usually with only one return working a day, it was all over by 08:00. Here the empties are being brought back through Huangjinggou and the market traders have had to shuffle some of their wares out of the way to allow for the train's passage. I had luck on my side on the day I visited - the weather was not the usual south China gloom, and a second working ran. Sichuan province, 16.12.2006.
