Steaming out of Cowes
On 18th July 1965 No. W17 Seaview prepares to leave Cowes with a train for Ryde Pier.
Upon arrival at Cowes the locos would propel the coaches back out of the station and seek refuge while the guard released the brakes and let the coaches gravitate back down the slope to the buffer stops. On completion of a successful operation the engine would run back down to the platform and couple up. Whether the staff first prepared any risk assessment documentation in these pre health and safety days is debatable.
The towns inhabitants await Mr Gance to deliver the latest consignment of solid fuel.
