Market well
Under the denomination of "King's Well" the from the main source at Königsberg over wooden tubes fed market fountain in 1515 is mentioned for the first time in the books of the town.
Its original form was destroyed in armed hostilities with the French. The reconstruction, although decided in 1726, did not begin until the early 19th century. The water once came from the Königsberg. Because the source there was so abundant, they could still provide further four secondary fountains and stately houses and it was the central water supply system. Its present form the market well finally got in 1878: an octagonal catch basin with two different sized pools above it - one surmounting the other. The fountain is ornated with a crowned lion, to which joins a small Elwedritsche (fabulous creature) - apparently it is escaped its fellows on Marstallplatz. The location of the market fountain its name suggests - the of sandstone made building is the guardian of the marketplace and is considered the "jewel of the New Town Old Town (Neustädter Altstadt)".
