Staircase to the Blue Lake
The history of the Blausee started with a landslide 15'000 years ago. Huge parts of the nearby glaciers were carried away. After the thaw, holes and little valleys emerged – as well as the Blausee with its surroundings.
Even though the turquoise blue, crystal clear lake is only 17 meters away from the river Kander, it’s a complete different water constellation: The Blausee is fed by groundwater stream of the Kander valley. The extraordinary color of the water originates from its clarity. Since only the blue part of the light is fully absorbed, the water appears in a glorious blue.
