Glamour-December 2014

Glamour’s annual Woman of the Year cover marks a moment of reflection: Which young woman had the biggest, most memorable year? In 2014, the clear answer was Lupita Nyong’o, a star of 12 Years a Slave, who captivated the world with her first-ever (and, in the end, Oscarwinning) role in a major film. The look, as photographed by Tom Munro and styled by fashion editor Laura Ferrara, is sleek, young, and modern—this is no fussy, old-fashioned starlet photo. With restrained cover lines (pink is the only color), the cover lets Nyong’o’s exuberant, contagious joy shine through—no gimmicks or loud cover tricks necessary. All of which underlines Glamour’s simple belief: When a woman is confident doing her thing, you don’t need much more.
