Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus), St Paul, Pribilof Islands, Alaska
Circumpolar in the tundra regions, the Arctic fox is native to northern and western Alaska, including the Pribilof islands. Thick fur and a bushy tail, with which it covers itself when at rest, protect it from the extreme winter cold. It does not hibernate, but survives on a diet of carrion, rodents, birds, seal pups and invertebrates. From a slide.
