Chase-Southeastern Finale
On August 4th, 1979, Ted Schnepf followed southbound Milwaukee Road train #102 from at least Faithorn, Illinois to somewhere around Terre Haute, Indiana. I bought these 8X10 copies at the Dupage County fairground train show in like the 80's.
In this photo, #102 is seen approaching Conrails Kankakee Belt diamond at Delmar tower. The train order signal blades have been removed and I am assuming there is an operator still inside to at least give signals. Delmar was installed around 1906 when the N/S Chicago Southern RR came through crossing the II&I. This location is now referred to as "Dell" by the Norfolk Southern. The Milwaukee tracks were gone within a year of this photo. The tower stood for some time thereafter. View looks N/N/W.
Milwaukee Road SD40-2's #201 and 157 were built by EMD in May of 1974 and July of 1972.
