From The Tower Friday--West Chicago

Westbound EJ&E to UP train CPLJR-12-056 is coming across the UP and by West Chicago tower on April 14th, 2002 with UP #6810 carrying EJ&E engineer Dave Trelep. He gives a wave and goes into the new connection for the UP's West Chicago yard.

The UP-to-EJ&E trains were hard to move due to the speed restriction into and out of the connection, resulting in the plant being tied up for sometimes over 45 minutes. The ones coming out and onto the J were at a stop, and from the time I lined them across to the time they cleared would usually result in a traffic jam on the UP that could take 2 hours to straighten out.

Levers 30 & 32 were pulled for "JB" and the 105 switch was in reverse and signal 101 was lined for his movement through the "JA" plant.

UP AC44CW #6810 was built by GE in June of 1996 and used primarily in coal train service.
