sta ana church

the first franciscan established church outside intramuros. allegedly built in 1578 of light materials, the stone church was built around 1720. dedicated to the "lady of the abandoned". On October 1966, the inner patio and surrounding area of the church were excavated and yielded rich artifacts on pre-Spanish Manila. some of the artifacts are on display in the church museum. this church also features a camarin room. this is an ante prayer room behind the main altar and features an elaborately painted ceiling and decorated walls. the miraculous image of st anne, a gift from mexico in the 18th century, is enshrined in this room.
