Australian Pre-Decimal Coins: On 14th February 1966, Australia introduced decimal notes and coins, marking the end of its British-style currency system based on pounds, shillings and pence.

Australia's first commemorative coin, the 'Canberra Florin' was issued on May 9, 1927 to commemorate the opening of Parliament House in Canberra as the seat of Government in Australia by the then Duke of York, later King George VI. 92.5% silver.

 

Right: Old coin bracelet found by my Grandfather sometime in the 1950s. Visible coins are: 1) 1944 Shilling which features a merino ram. 2) 1943 Sixpence with the Australian Coat of Arms. 3) 1943 Threepence with sheaf of wheat.

 

Top: 1942 Threepence, made into a signet ring. Has a sheaf of wheat with three stems tied in a ribbon.
