Rufous Hummingbird immature female 11-4-2011 Pulaski Co. KY

Selasphorus rufus

I spent the weekend chasing vagrant hummingbirds. Any hummingbird observed at this time of year is likely to be a rare hummingbird from the western U.S. Licensed hummingbird bander, Brainard Palmer-ball added a piece of jewelry (leg band) to the right leg and ID this a immature female. This bird is in heavy molt and is missing several feathers!
