Ford Park is in Ulverston, Cumbria. It was once the playing fields and annex classrooms for Ulverston Lower school which was closed in the mid nineties.
A group of local councilors and member of the public formed a charitable organisation in the late nineties to manage the park.
In 2005 they we're able to buy the land and buildings from the county council with the help of a loan from the Architectural Heritage Ass.
Most of the day to day work of tending the grounds is carried out by volunteers, we have approx 140 members,
Every summer we stage various events in the grounds and host the end of carnival gala and the finale of the lantern parade.
We are self sustaining and receive no funding from any of our local councils.
We employ a Centre manager, a volunteer manager, a project officer, a caretaker and a cleaner.
