Based on the border between Cheshire and suburban south Manchester in the UK, I mainly make pictures that combine a life-long passion for photography with my love of natural history.

However, as a full-time carer my photographic opportunities - in terms of both time and travel - are severely limited. So, out of necessity, almost all my photography takes place either in my own (horticulturally-challenged) garden or in the local parks and nature reserves that lie within a 10-15 minute distance of my home. But you don’t need to travel to exotic destinations or have access to a wilderness to engage creatively with the ecology of a location, and while photographing the flora and fauna in my small 'local patch' I can still bear witness to many beautiful and compelling sights.

I believe that photography can play a key role in addressing the unfolding climate and ecological crisis by helping to develop a greater appreciation of, and respect for, the natural environment and its wild inhabitants. Through making and sharing my photographs of the 'everyday' nature on my doorstep, I hope to be able to make at least some small contribution to that.

I've recently rejoined Flickr, having previously been a regular user from 2010 to 2017 (www.flickr.com/people/50998485@N02/). Back then I become very disenchanted with Flickr and eventually stopped posting my images. In particular, I found Flickr's system for providing feedback to be depressingly transactional and, therefore, ultimately meaningless. I have neither the time nor the inclination to game-play, so this time round I will not be participating very much in the social media elements of Flickr. Instead, I am using it mainly as a surrogate for a personal website and online repository for some of my images, to which I can direct family, friends and others.
