A Classics major as an undergraduate, moved to Florence for eight years and gained a doctorate in the History of Art, specializing in early fifteenth century Florentine painting and its relationship to Humanism. On return to the US, served as assistant director of the Williams College Museum of Art for four years. In late 1984, moved to Madison, Wisconsin to assume the directorship of the Chazen (then Elvehjem) Museum of Art at the University of Wisconsin, Maison. Retired in September 2017 and now I can spend all of my time taking pictures and editing them.
